My challenge to you, is to see how many bingos (5 space in a row either vertical, horizontal, or diagonal) you can get this year with your tatting! The ultimate challenge would be to try for a black out (all spaces).
As you get bingos, take a picture of your tatting that got you your bingo and send it to me (either in the comments or via email). All tatters that earn a bingo this year will be entered into a drawing to win a prize (though the bigger prize is all the tatting you will accomplish).
Muskaan’s submission:
Here are the boxes I’ve filled so far for the card —
Tat Earrings – again the same but I will add findings then send you pics.
I am so happy that you have joined the game Muskaan! Your tatting is gorgeous! Love your snowflakes and you’ve captured an ear of maize so accurately!

Please let me know if you have any questions about the squares. I will be playing along too (but won’t put my name in the drawing).
I very much look forward to seeing what you tat up! The PDF file of the card is linked above for easy download and printing!
Happy Tatting!

Happy New Year! My first creative challenge of the new year is an ongoing game of tatting bingo called PICOT (yay for a 5-letter tatting related word). My challenge to you, is to see how many bingos (5 space in a row either vertical, horizontal, or diagonal) you can get this year with your tatting! My friend, Donna introduced me to tatting on August 23, 2012. My mother and I did a weekly crochet night. Donna asked if we were willing to learn something new and introduced us to the wonderful world of tatting.
Practice thread as Donna taught me the basics.
First Completed Project (folded join and bead in center of ring)2nd project
That night, I perused the internet to see what type of things can be made with these lovely little knots. I stumbled across Anne Bruvold’s Flying Minor Norwegian Dragons and I was hooked. Each time we met for Donna to teach me the next steps, I would ask if I knew all I needed for the dragon. Donna was very patient and always had the next thing I should practice before I attempted the dragon. She also introduced me to the Shuttlebirds Tatting Guild (I am very lucky to have a guild in town).
My first pattern variation. Some of the things I had tatted in my first few months. The dragon is the pattern that hooked me.
Over time I have picked up many different techniques, here are some of the ones I learned in year 1.

In April of 2013, I attended my first Shuttlebirds Tatting Workshop “Angels Among Us”. I look forward to workshop every year. In 2014, I not only attended workshop, but I taught classes.
Classes I have taught:

I planned to teach at both the 2020 and 2021 Shuttlebirds Workshops, but the pandemic caused them to be postponed to the 2022 Workshop.
I am very excited to have these cards printed (and so was the group of tatters that have been waiting for their set since I started talking about the idea in 2014). Sets have been shipped all over the world and it makes me so happy.
I have enjoyed tatting so much through the years. Here are some additional pieces.

My favorite person to tat for is my darling daughter. Tatting is “pretties” and she loves everything I make her. She is also 3, so she tests the durability of the lace, needs reminded not to chew on it, and some have needed washing after she enjoyed them. Her face lights up whenever I gift her something new and she is eager to learn. She has her own sets of shuttles (including a custom painted set commissioned by Patti Duff and painted by my sis-in-law, Bethaney) and loves to wave them around and proudly exclaim “Mommy, I’m tatting!” as she twists the thread together.

Big accomplishments in the last ten years:
In February, I launched my Patreon page. Thank you to my adventurous Patrons! My Patreon page now includes my pattern shop (I am still working on getting all my patterns listed: https://www.patreon.com/TatYourOwnAdventure/shop
Patterns (and video tutorials) up on Etsy: (I will be moving away from Etsy, as the Patreon pattern shop is much easier and cost effective to manage) https://www.etsy.com/shop/TatYourOwnAdventure
But the best accomplishments have been teaching, from teaching new tatters the basics to teaching experienced tatters new techniques. And my all-time favorite, introducing tatters to the world of design with guided free-form tatting.
I look forward to seeing what happens during my next eleven years of tatting! I have several patterns in the works, a technique deck in progress, an app idea, and the hopes of eventually publishing a tatting book. We shall see! Happy tatting!
This Accidental Heart pattern was the first pattern I ever shared. It is a design adaptation from a medallion found on page 32 and 33 in the Pricilla Yoke Book by Georgette Batt. The original is available in the Antique Pattern Library here: APL – Page 34 (antiquepatternlibrary.org) I came across the pattern shared by Elaine Gan on her blog: Priscilla Yoke Earrings | Tatting Patterns.
This is a design adaptation, which means it is not one of my original designs. I share it freely with you, because the original pattern this is adapted from is in the public domain.
This pattern has been updated from the 2013 posting to include a diagram.
I hope you enjoy the pattern, and I would love to see your tatted hearts!
